Before I begin let me state for the record: My 2nd son's name is Christian. He is named for my Grandfather who was Nicholas Christian, and while no one else in our family has used this name as a first name (we have lots of Nicholas'), I always liked it. I just liked it as a name, it surprisingly didn't conjure up "religion" for me. The first time it "hit" me, we were at a family retreat and my then two and a half year old walked up to an adult and said "Hi, I'm Christian" the man responded: "Hi, I'm Jewish". I had a large "oooohhhhh" moment.
We recently discovered a new spiritual adviser in our midst. Young Ted, age 6, has begun his CCD training. (Our first adviser was William when he started Hebrew School - we learned a lot from his teaching as well) Ted is apparently enjoying and embracing his new wealth of information and had some questions for my little men during yesterday's play-date.
CAST: Davis (my son) Christian (my other son) Ted (our guest)
Ted: I am a Christian, What are you?
Davis: Uuuuuhhhh? I am not sure, I think we are the other kind.
Ted: Do you know what Christian means? It means God gave his son for us and we believe that he will rise again.
Davis: Uuuuuhhhh, yeah, I think we are that kind. Oh, but I am not that sure.
Ted: Well, HE (pointing at my son with relevant name) is a Christian, I know he is.
Davis: Oh yeah, he is a Christian for SURE, oh yeah, he is
