Or so the "Metro West Daily News" reported on Sunday May 24th. I have been carrying around an article titled "Bringing in the Green with Feng Shui in your home" since it's release and finally decided yesterday to get started implementing the 6 recommended steps. It is my summer project so to speak.
1. Gold Fish (actually it's step number 6 in the article, but is where I chose to begin)
Gold Fish, according to this article: "Are Pretty, relaxing to watch, and bring "life" energy into your environment. They are also magnets for wealth. What is the winning combination? Fill your tank with 8 goldfish for luck and 1 black fish to keep away bad luck." Easy enough - I headed straight for Petco yesterday. I had a few things to learn about goldfish it seems. First of all I had "bowl" in mind, not "tank". Second 8-9 goldfish, it appears, require a rather enormous tank. Plan B right from the get go.
While I was "onto" the Petco sales person that she could be trying to sell me a load of fish poop . . . she was going on and on and on about environment, pet safety, ammonia, Ph, cleaning, poop volume, water volume per pet . . . I nearly became bleary eyed.
I had a friend you see who's brother won a goldfish at a fair at the Jersey Shore. Said fish lived in a dixie cup on the dash board of the family car for the long trip to it's new home in East Tennessee. Said fish continued to live in a bowl (granted new, larger bowls were purchased over the years) for many, many years. This fish lived a long and healthy life (he was even known to eat peanut butter off your finger) in a bowl. This is what I knew about Goldfish. The Petco lady assured me that this story, which I shared in detail with her, was nothing short of a miracle. I could not anticipate any type of similar result.
Like a pig to the trough I purchased and carted home a 6.6 gallon tank - with all the bells and whistles. We had a nice afternoon of setting up our habitat and anxiously and excitedly returned to Petco this morning for our fish. It appears my Feng Shui wish of 8 fish will not materialize, I simply can not commit to such an enormous aquatic undertaking. We have started with two and plan to add a few more over the next month. Acclimate, Acclimate, Acclimate.
"Pal" and "Goldie" are happily swimming (well, Pal is) away right now and already the pangs of pet ownership are wearing on me. Goldie appears to have suffered a fin injury in transit. I am deeply concerned about her and have already spent much time wearing my worry like a heavy load. While a knew a few fish could perish in our attempt, I was not prepared to first of all "care" and second of all for it to come so quickly. I am watching over her and expressing and feeling emotions not quite expected . . . . all I was after was the Feng Shui bi-product.
I will continue to report on Goldie's progress (or demise as the case may be) as well as sharing and inviting you to join me for the remaining steps. The rest, I assure you are quite less invasive than bringing living creatures into your home. This must be it for now as I have a friend to attend to.
